The new Wollman Park Aquatic Center replaced a 1937 Works Progress Administration project pool that used over 2,000,000 gallons of water annually. The new Aquatic Center provides many popular features including zero-depth entry, water slides, a separate kiddie pool, and lap lanes. A new building with a multiple-level pump house and bathhouses containing lockers and shower, concession area, guard area, and office space was constructed. Other construction items included retaining walls, landscaping and a lawn sprinkler system.
Youngs pool construction consisted of a brand new zero-entry pool, water slides, splash pool, and bathhouse building. In addition to the new construction, rehab was done on the existing lap pool and renovation were made on the parking lot by adding a new surface, curbs, and gutters.
Swope Park Pool Renovations
The Swope Park Pool was originally built in 1941 as a Works Progress Administration project pool. The complete renovation of the pool included the removal and reinstallation of the pool's water filtration system; upgrading the pumps and bathhouse. The exterior walls and pillars of the surrounding structures experienced significant deterioration due to weathering of the stone. These stones were removed and replaced with custom cut-to-fit stones that were color matched to the existing structure. Site improvements also included the rehabilitation of the 1940's artwork.
