The project was designed to enhance the 6,500-square-foot plaza area in the heart of the Kansas City Art Institute. The patio area is centrally located between many of the historic KCAI classroom buildings. Improvements included adding a 1,200-pound Wallace drinking fountain, a replica of those found in Paris. Lighting, landscaping, and patio furniture were added to complete the space.

Unique features and lighting create the perfect study space for students, regardless of the time of day. The project had a short construction schedule, to be completed while the students were on summer break. Access to the project was confined to space between existing historic structures, requiring smaller-than-typical construction equipment.
